In the city of Atherton, California, which is one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country, the local police department is offering their home security surveillance services to the citizens. This may sound a little strange.

For a fee, the police department will have access to surveillance cameras in homes (and possibly even schools if they can get them to sign on) that they will hopefully be able to use in case of crime or crime prevention. The way it works is the home cameras will be connected by a network to the same network as the cameras that surveil the city. When a homeowners alarm is tripped, the department has access to live video feeds supplied from the cameras installed in the home. Supposedly, this is the only time the video will be accessible, in addition to a minute prior to any tripping of the home alarm.

Does this not creep you out? I’m sorry, but there is no way I would ever allow anyone to have access to camera footage in my home, especially not the government, and even more especially not the cops. This is the closest thing to big brother I have ever heard of.

The crazy part is they want you to pay for the service. I guess I can see how this may theoretically be helpful to some, especially in a community inhabited by tech company CEOs and other extremely wealthy families, but I really do not see this catching on. You have to figure that most of these people can afford private security firms to patrol their homes. This seems like such a strange thing to me.

I mention this when talking about using internet security cameras as a way to monitor, surveil, and protect your home. Using an internet camera–and there are many different kinds, from your basic webcam to others that are made more for home security purposes–is sometimes a good option for people.

Homeowners will often use this kind of set up to monitor a baby’s room, the front door, or to keep an eye on their pets while they are out of the house. I mention the thing about getting what you pay for because I feel that this kind of security camera is more a way of complementing your other home security efforts and isn’t necessarily the best way to fully secure your home.

A professional installation may be a better route for some home owners, while computer cameras may be just the little added bit of surveillance some need. The cool thing about an internet camera is you can obviously keep an eye on your home when you are miles away, via your internet connection and live feed.

This kind of setup can be notoriously unstable, but things are definitely getting better as camera and streaming technology improve.

Home security surveillance is one way that people can add to their own home security. This post is about three basic things that a surveillance system will provide you.

Many people are seeking ways to feel more comfortable in their own homes. This is a consequence of it being such a difficult economic climate in the United States and the world over. In times of uncertainty or crisis, people start to think a little more about their personal protection.

Here are the three basic elements:

Detection of an intruder. Home security surveillance systems may be able to alert you or your security company to the presence of a home invader.

Evidence. If you are unfortunate enough to have someone break into your home, a camera system will create evidence that you may need for conviction.

Monitoring your home. Many people look at home surveillance as a way to observe what goes on in and around their home on a daily basis. Some people use it to keep tabs on their small children, while others spy on the nanny. Some people use a simple camera at the front door connected to their computer monitor to see who is knocking.

As you can see, home security surveillance is a good way to begin to protect your home. Everyone’s house is different, though, and there is a lot that a professional can tell you about your particular security needs. Good luck.

Home security surveillance is a common thing. After all, it’s your home you are protecting. You should be able to have a surveillance system in place to protect your home, your belongings, and yourself and your family. No one disputes that.

But is it really fair to have surveillance in the workplace. I understand that business owners want to protect their wares and their property when they leave for the evening, but what I’m talking about here is being spied on in your cubicle at your place of work.

Is is fair–or even legal–for your employer to spy on your phone calls and have surveillance over what content you look at on the internet? I know this is standard procedure and definitely can be held up by law, but my question is: is it fair? What do you think.

It is easier than ever to protect your home with advanced technological measures. While some people are happy to protect what they have by making sure everything is locked when nobody is around, others find value in being able to monitor the premises at all times, ensuring that if somebody does break in that it’s caught on camera for police to use as evidence. Pre-packaged set-ups are available, but often buying separate components and installing everything yourself can be a more cost-effective way of protecting your home with surveillance.

To build your own remote security camera home surveillance system you will need security cameras (the number depends on how many locations you want to be able to monitor), power, cabling (although wireless set-ups are available and can be found out more about with some online research), mounts for the cameras to be fitted to walls, and a monitor which to footage from the cameras will be displayed on. If you’re hoping to record footage then you will also need recording equipment, whether digital or VCR, to connect to the monitor. If you want to record multiple camera footage simultaneously then a video processor might be necessary.

However, today internet security cameras are easily available and make the process of monitoring and using remote security cameras a real possibility for the home-owner. With internet security cameras you can record all the information onto your computer and are also able to remotely control the camera’s position through the internet, manipulating its direction or zoom with simple button presses.

Home security surveillance systems can offer the owner great peace of mind, removing concern for break-ins which can now be captured for police evidence, and done in a cost-effective way.

Home security surveillance systems are becoming increasingly common. Thanks to technological advances, manufacturing process changes, and the advent of internet sales and wholesale to public direct contact, camera systems for home security are becoming cheaper and cheaper to own. It is now possible to install your own camera system with a little research, and this reduces costs markedly as it isn’t necessary to pay for an engineer to come and install the equipment for you.

Burglar alarm systems which are monitored but come with no camera system are still very effective. They will alert the central station to any suspicious activity and serve to reduce crime in your entire locality as well as just your property. However, this won’t work for all eventualities, such as when you are in your house with the system turned off and there is a burglary or robbery.

These situations are best dealt with by home security surveillance systems. Often the mere sight of a camera is enough to dissuade would-be burglars from attempting to steal from your property. However, in the eventuality of a break-in home security cameras can provide important evidence for police investigations, increase the likelihood of catching the perpetrators, and aid in insurance claims.

Popular types of security cameras include those which are able to record in both day and night-time conditions. Dummy cameras are also common as a deterrent. Internet security cameras are a popular choice due to the fact that footage can be checked from any location with an internet connection.

Now, more than ever, home security of this type is the popular choice for those concerned for the protection of their house and possessions. It is a big step-up over a simple alarm system and provides an even greater deterrent ability as well as valuable evidence for a court of law.

It is easier than ever to fit your home with a full home security surveillance system, due to the fact that wholesalers of equipment now distribute direct to the public through the internet. It has become incredibly accessible, and a lot cheaper, making it an increasingly popular choice for home owners who feel vulnerable or just wish to protect what they have as well as possible.

So what are the pros and cons to home security surveillance?

Pros:

Your home will have increased security against burglaries and robberies.

Having cameras connected to the internet can allow you to monitor your house from a computer wherever you are.

It is relatively cheap to have a system installed, especially given the ease with which you can now monitor your own security footage.

Cons:

Computer glitches can disrupt the system, and the computer will need to be on constantly for the system to be monitored.

An uninterrupted internet connection is required by most systems.

If you are using home security surveillance then you will need to monitor the footage yourself, or get someone else to do it. This can be a very time consuming process.

Home security can be disarmed very easily as there is no alarm system connected to a security centre to alert a system failure

Improper installation may not provide effective security.

On the whole it seems better to have a system installed by a professional who knows what they are doing. It is also advisable to have a system that connects to a central security office unless you are able to devote the time required to properly monitor footage. However, if you do not feel you need to constantly monitor the surveillance footage then a home system would suffice.

It is perfectly possible for you to install your own home surveillance and security equipment without paying engineer fees. However, it does require a lot of research and knowledge of electronics and there are a lot of questions to bear in mind.

In the past home security surveillance equipment wholesalers only sold goods to businesses specialising in installation. The fact that in many states a lisence is required in order to install the equipment made this a necessity. However, it is now increasingly common to find wholesalers distributing their products directly to the public via the internet, which means that there is every chance that you can now buy the specific surveillance equipment that you want and install it yourself.

You may not have the expertise of a qualified installations expert, but if you are really set on doing this yourself then all that is really required is the determination to do a bit of research and learn a little bit about electronics. It is also recommended that you call your local police station, as they will be happy to provide you with information which you may require on certain aspects of home security surveillance.

Some of the important things to remember when installing your own security equipment are questions like:

Some home security surveillance systems provide special devices upon which videos can be viewed, where others use your personal computer or television. Some are even able to be watched anywhere in the world using the internet, providing a high-tech and extremely reliable home security surveillance system. It is generally the case that security monitoring becomes most important when we are away for extended periods of time, which is why this method of monitoring can be so useful.
